The exhibition Stars over China: The Ancient Shu Civilization of Sanxingdui and Jinsha kicked off at the Shanghai Museum’s new eastern branch in the city’s Pudong New Area on Friday. As the inaugural exhibition of the museum’s new branch, it featured 363 pieces (sets) of millennium-old cultural relics from China’s renowned Sanxingdui Ruins. This exhibition serves as a test run for the branch’s new bronze exhibition hall. The new branch, positioned to be "the world's top museum for ancient Chinese art," is set to fully open to the public by the end of November. The museum's current branch at downtown People's Square will be repositioned as "a museum of world civilizations," with the aim of becoming a platform for visitors in China to learn about the world, according to the museum director.
